big life change

Jake got laid off yesterday. So he shaved himself a mohawk. And then our wonderful friends got us some life change/early retirement presents. A Colt 45 for Jake, a case of mountain dew for me, and the saddest cookie cake ever.

My very kind and astute intern just sent me Lemonade, an inspirational short film about being laid off. It pretty much sums up what Jake thinks about his new opportunity.

Lucky!! My husband is super jealous (of both the mohawk and the opportunity). I hope it works out a million times better than you even hope it will!

Abby, he hated his job, so this isn't entirely bad. The scariest part was that our health insurance was through his job. Aside from that we had been taking seriously about him joining me or being able to write full time. There's a lot of potential now :)

Besty, so funny you say that. Some of our other friends are jealous too :)

I understand my biz is a two person opp now too. My sign. other is helping me out until he finds something else. Way to have a sense of humor about it.

Ugh. That sucks - I also get my benefits through my husband so that I can work freelance and create artwork. But I hope it's just the universe moving Jake toward the work he really wants to do. Good luck and hoping all will be better soon.

That's lame. But at the same time....awesome. I'm telling you -- a husband/wife letterpress company is the way to go!

Well if the A-Team ever comes back Jake can audition for Mr. T:)
Sorry to hear the news, but I know two talented people will make the most out of the situation.

Sadly, I think getting laid off is becoming a popular story. It happened to my husband last June. He hated his job, too, but it was still a shocking blow. As a result of his being laid off, we moved from Toronto to Lunenburg, NS—a life dream. My husband is going to school for Heritage Carpentry, which he loves. And I've started to finally get ready to do my own letterpress work. I loved the link to the movie and the idea of new opportunities. It sounds to me like you guys have it pretty well figured out. And like so many others, this will probably turn out to be one of the best things that ever happens to you. All the best.
